Shoebox campaign kicks off

OPERATION CHRISTMAS Child Shoebox campaign has begun.

OPERATION CHRISTMAS Child Shoebox campaign has begun.

Shoeboxes are available at the Dollar Store.

Every year, Samaritan's Purse sends out shoeboxes filled with a variety of supplies to impoverished children around the world.

School supplies, toys, hygiene items, hard candy or lollipops, mints, gum, socks, ball caps, hair clips, sunglasses, toy jewelry, watches and flashlights with extra batteries are some of the suggested items.

Boxes are made out for a boy or girl and a certain age group.

In a separate envelope, a letter or family photo may also be included.

The child who receives the shoebox may write back if a name and address are included.

A small fee is asked to be included with the box to pay for shipping and other project costs.

If a shoebox donation is made online, an extra label will be included on the email receipt that will track the box so senders can find out which country their box went to.

If a sender's boxes go to more than one country, more than one email reply with those countries on them will be sent back.
