DOWNTOWN TERRACE Rotary Club president-elect John Heighington gives Susan Broughton of the Happy Gang Centre a cheque for $5

THE GENEROSITY of the community to the Happy Gang Centre for its renovations continued with a local group giving a big donation last week.

John Heighington, president-elect of the Downtown Terrace Rotary Club, presented a cheque for $5,000 to Susan Broughton of the centre March 25.

The money is earmarked for the centre's renovations to its basement floor and installation of an elevator to make access to the basement easier for the seniors and others.

The basement is used for the seniors' bazaar, to play carpet bowling and floor curling, and to store tables and chairs.

Access to the basement is currently only by steep stairs to the basement.

Heighington said the rotary club gives money to many international and local projects such as the gazebo in the Millennium Park, children's playground on Ferry Island, handicap ramp at the library, handicap lift at the aquatic centre, bus stop shelter on Apsly, rotary ball park on Kerr St., rotary tennis courts on Straume Ave. and highway cleanup from airport to the Hwy 16/37 junction.
