National Indigenous Peoples’ Day celebrations took place at George Little Park in Terrace on June 22.
From homemade bannock, dancing and even a moose-calling contest, hundreds were drawn to the festivities this past weekend.
A series of speakers from Kitselas and Kitsumkalum initiated the day with a traditional opening ceremony acknowledging Tshimshian territory, with guests Dr. Joseph Gosnell and MP Nathan Cullen to welcome the event.

The Gitlaxdax Dancer, Xbisuunt Dancers and the Suwilaawks Drumming Group kept the energy going, encouraging the audience to join them on stage.
Relay runners from the first annual Tears to Hope Society also made an appearance after collectively running approximately 250km in two days. A moment of silence followed for MMIWG and residential school students, with a Circle of Unity drumming session.
The day concluded with live music from bands Outlaws Forever and Joel West & Co.
