JOEL MAWHORTER and his wife Rose share their message with passersby and drivers at the corner of Lakelse and Emerson this afternoon.

IF YOU were driving downtown today, you may have seen a couple standing on the old Esso site with placards despite the cold.

Joel Mawhorter and his wife Rose wanted to tell people about Jesus and some of the Bible teachings that Joel says have been ignored in recent years – such as the Sermon on the Mount or doing good to your enemies.

Nowadays, people think it's okay to kill your enemies "but that's not what Jesus taught."

"We just want to warn people what the Bible says so they can be ready when they stand before Jesus on judgement day," says Joel.

The couple is from Hazelton – Joel works in the hospital there – and has done the same thing there and in Smithers too since they started in July, says Joel.

This afternoon, some passersby and motorists would make comments about their signs and others would just walk by, he says.
