THE ANNUAL Kids' Fishing Derby saw children, hoping to reel in the biggest catch, lining the dock at the boat launch on Furlong Bay at Lakelse Lake, yesterday Saturday June 18.
Under a cloudy sky, girls and boys of all ages cast off their fishing lines and waited patiently for a fish to bite.
Fish ranging in size from a couple of inches long right up to 10 inches were pulled from the water, measured and thrown back in the lake.
The allowable size is 12 inches long from the end of the nose to the V-part of the tail, otherwise it must be let go.
Several children didn't want to touch the fish they caught and let their parents release the fish back in to the lake for them.
When it was all over, Michaela Matthews won for bringing in a 10-inch cutthroat.
Every child received a participation gift.
