Busy future for Legion

It was heartwarming for Veterans and Legionaries on parade to see Terrace citizens honour those who gave their lives

Thank you Terrace from Branch #13.

There may have been a chill wind blowing down Lakelse Avenue on Nov. 11 but it was heartwarming for the Veterans, Legionaries, youth groups and service organizations on parade to see the number of Terrace citizens lining the street, filling the theatre and standing at the Cenotaph to honour those who gave their lives so that we might live in freedom in this beautiful community.

Both the paraders and the observers were there, wearing their red poppies, not to glorify war, but to celebrate peace and thank the men and women who brought us that peace and also those who now protect it and us in our everyday lives such as our military, the RCMP and our firefighters.

We would also like to thank the unknown person or persons who chased down the windswept wreaths at the cenotaph on the 12th and replaced them in an orderly and respectful way. It was most appreciated.

With the final counts coming in, this promises to be a banner year for the poppy campaign.

Much thanks for this goes to Cde Peter Crompton who has spearheaded this important event for years and his willing helpers.

Thanks also goes to the people of Terrace and area, including the Hazeltons and the First Nations villages from near and far for their generosity.

Remembrance Day may have come and gone but that does not mean that Branch #13 of the Legion is going to be resting on its laurels.

The next couple of months will be busy ones.

The Branch is starting a drop-in darts night starting on Thursday, Nov. 21.
