Teysean Angeline Henry, a nationally recognized figure skater and a member of the Gitxsan and Tsimshian first nations, has been announced as the recipient of the 2022 Premier’s Awards for Indigenous Youth Excellence in Sport. It’s the second time Henry has received the award.

The Premier’s Awards for Indigenous Youth Excellence in Sport are presented annually to Indigenous athletes under 25 years of age who have achieved outstanding performance in sport and who demonstrate strong leadership qualities.

Teysean’s mother, Robyn Angeline Henry, expressed pride in her daughter’s accomplishments, noting her resilience and dedication.

“After she had an injury in 2019, she pulled out and she’s come back stronger,” Henry said. “I’ve never seen so much dedication in an athlete before and it’s amazing to see.”

Teysean clinched gold at a competition in Kelowna in mid-March.

Beyond her competitive successes, Teysean is creating a video audition for Disney On Ice, a touring ice show featuring figure skaters dressed as Disney cartoon characters.
