The Northmen were out to claim a hat-trick of defending championship titles for the tournament, but lost to the Rogues 57-10, who went on to win first place. They then faced the Prince George Gnats and won 24-22, and secured bronze in the competition.

The Terrace Northmen took home bronze in this year’s annual Saratoga Cup competition.

Representing northern B.C., the Northmen battled against teams from Prince George, Vernon and Cranbrook for from Sept. 8-9.

The Northmen were out to claim a hat-trick of defending championship titles for the tournament, but lost to the Cranbrook Rocky Mountain Rogues 57-10, who went on to win first place against the Vernon Jackals. Terrace then faced the Prince George Gnats and won 24-22, securing a bronze medal in the competition.

“For the first time in three years we weren’t champions but we had a great time,” said club vice president Evan van Dyk. “I think the most important thing was that this year we had six new rookies, which is a huge growth for our club and our sport.”

Van Dyk said the team is looking forward to practising at their new regulation size field at Coast Mountain College when the season picks back up in next May.

“As soon as the snow melts, we’ll get on the field and start training,” said van Dyk, mentioning that anyone is welcome to join the team.

The season wrap-up is set for Sept. 29, where the team will give out individual awards their Most Valuable Player, Most Valuable Forward, Most Improved Player, Rookie of the Year and the Ben Soucie Clubsman Award for the most dedicated players.
