The Terrace Bluebacks impressed at the swim meet in Smithers on Mar. 1-2, finishing second to the Prince Rupert Rapids with 631 points to their 754.
"We sent a total of 25 swimmers and 11 of those were 10 and under. [It was] great to see our younger athletes travelling and competing," said assistant coach Vincent Calkins.
Bluebacks athletes came away with 10 medals.
The Terrace 15+ boys dominated their category, medalling twice.
Gabe Ungerhojer (15) tied for gold in the boys 15+ age group, finishing first in all but one event where he came second. He narrowly missed a new best time in the 50m freestyle by 0.78 seconds.
Noah Greilins (15) won bronze in the boys 15+ age group, winning two races, finishing second in three and third in another. He got two new fastest times, improving his 400m freestyle time (5:36) by 19.33 seconds.
Marlee Swain (16) took home bronze in the girls 15+ age group, swimming two new best times, including in the 200m backstroke where she improved by nearly 36 seconds for a time of 3:21.
Paige Constantinescu (14) won gold in the girls 13-14 age group with four first place finishes, one second place finish and one third. She got a new best time in the 100m backstroke by 0.13 seconds, finishing it in 1:15.
"I have to mention [that] she swam the 200m fly directly after that race with zero rest," said Calkins, where she finished second with a time of 3:31.
Caleb Harris (14) tied for bronze in the boys 13-14 age group. Harris swam four new fastest times, including 40 seconds faster on his 400m freestyle (7:37) and 15 seconds faster on his 100m breaststroke (2:25). He also swam in his first ever 200m individual medley, finishing third with a time of 4:17.
Maelle Calkins (12) won bronze for the girls 11-12 age group, losing silver by one point. She swam three new fastest times, taking 7.29 seconds off her 200m backstroke (3:15) and 9.26 seconds off her 200m breaststroke (2:45). Both events were already divisional qualifying times.
Xavier Greilins (12) won silver in the boys 11-12 age group, taking a whopping 54 seconds off his 400m freestyle time, finishing it in 6:03 for second place. He also got a new best time by 0.07 seconds in his 100m backstroke (1:30).
Quinn Netzel (10) won silver for the girls 10 and under age group, finishing with new best times in all six of her events. Her biggest improvement was in the 200m individual medley (3:53), which was 10.16 seconds faster.
Matteo Ungehojer (10) tied for gold in the boys 10 and under age group, swimming three new best times, including 8.66 seconds off his 50m breaststroke (1:26) and 6:16 seconds off his 100m individual medley (2:31).
Finn Mundhenk (9) tied for bronze in the boys 10 and under age group, finishing first in the 25m breaststroke with a time of 39:28.
Assistant coach Calkins has a message for Bluebacks athletes.
"All of that hard work at practice pays off and these results show it. Keep it up, your coaches are proud of you all," he said.
The next swim meet is the Prince George Moose Meet from Apr. 25-27. The pool is 50 metres, meaning it is a long course meet.
