Shames Mountain access road closed

Nechako Northcoast has made the decision to close the road leading to Shames Mountain for the day.

Nechako Northcoast has made the decision to close the road leading to Shames Mountain for the day.

“We had some very heavy snow over night,” said Peter Lansdowne from Nechako.

He said part of the delay in snow removal this morning was due to trees which had come down on the lower section of the road.

Nechako clearing crews have made it to the top of the road and are now working their way down, Lansdowne said.

According to Shames Mountain, the road is congested with staff that tried to get up the hill this morning.

I understand they are working their way down and it’s just a matter of clearing the vehicles blocking the road, Lansdowne confirmed.

Don Ramsay, district manager for the Ministry of Transportation, said the area received approximately 40 cm of snow last night, most of which started coming down after 10 p.m.

This is the second closure of the road this week, as it was closed earlier in the week for avalanche control.

Shames is predicting the road will be open tomorrow.
