The River Kings won their home opener 7-3 last Saturday against the Ice Demons.
The game was tied 3-3 until the 8:58 mark in the third period when the River Kings proceeded to net four.
Starring in the game was no doubt Ryan Roseboom who buried five, followed by Ben Reinbolt who scored two.
The top powerplay unit and first line of Ryan Roseboom, Colin Bell and Connor Onstein will be relied on heavily throughout the season, according to management.
“They’ve been playing together for quite some time so they definitely know where everyone is on the ice,” said team manager Germain Francoeur.
The reigning CIHL champions had some rust to shake off in the first two periods, but Francoeur said the team’s skill came through in the third.
“We outshot them probably 60 to 20,” he said. “We had a few power plays in the third period and managed to capitalize — that was essentially the turning point.”
The team hasn’t had much practice time together leading up to the season, having only three team skates leading up to the opener.
“All in all, I think the boys looked pretty good considering. It can only get better from here.”
New additions to the team will also require some fine-tuning. The third line of Jacob Maclean, Trevor Andrews and Trevor Ebeling are all new players and are getting used to the system.
“It looks pretty good for essentially being thrown together last minute, and we’re actually excited to see what they can do moving forward,” said Francoeur.
The team travels to Hazelton this Saturday to take on the Wolverines.
“We’re not looking ahead,” said Francoeur. “We’re just trying to get lots of skates in and take it one week at a time.”
