The Northcoast Nightmares flat track roller derby team wants to show people what derby is all about with an open training session at the Terrace sportsplex April 10.

The team will be taking lessons from Diandra Jurkic-Walls, co-founder of the PG Roller Girls team, who is coming to Terrace to offer her expertise to the ladies.

Jurkic-Walls will be teaching the team a selection of drills and strategy as well as ideas on how to increase its skills.

“We decided to use this opportunity to invite people to come out and watch so they can learn more about it (roller derby), and pick up some information,” said Tarea Layton, or Lady-Izahella, a veteran with the Northcoast Nightmares. “We are very excited.”

The Nightmares will have a booth set up at the arena on the day, giving away free merchandise and information on the team.

Members of the public are invited to come from 7:30 – 9:30 p.m. to check out the action.
