The Nisga’a Elementary Secondary School Senior Girls’ “A” basketball team earned themselves a visit to the Nisga’a Lisims Government (NLG) Building and a trip to Kelowna for the provincial championships.

Before heading south, five members of the team were greeted by NLG leaders in Gitlaxt’aamiks, where they toured the Legislative Chamber and met with Nisga’a leaders.

NLG’s president Eva Clayton, executive chair, Brian Tait and others were on hand to congratulate the girls and wish them luck in the Mar. 1 to Mar. 4 provincial tournament.

“It is in these chambers that one day some of you will be sitting and taking over our jobs,” Clayton told the team. “I want to encourage you all of you to continue with your education. We’ve learned over the years that education is key, knowledge building is key.”

The team finished the season undefeated, and coach Charity Peal said the team has played well all season, commonly beating teams with a surplus of 30 points or by doubling the opponent’s score.
