Members of the Kincolith (Gingolx) Jr. girl's basketball team scored a third place finish at the 2011 Jr. All Native Basketball (ANT) in Penticton March 20 -25.

The girls' team, Gingolx Storm, was joined by the Jr. boys' Sons of Kincolith Jr. team.

The group of 24 players, eight chaperones and four coaches headed south to represent Kincolith and the Nisga'a Nation.

They were in a tough seat right away,” said coach Melvin Barton about the Storm's first few rounds of competition.

After playing six games, with four wins and two losses, the Gingolx Storm walked away from the tournament with a third place finish.

People were impressed with the way they played,” said Barton, adding the team has improved every year.

Barton has been coaching the team for eight years, and said some of the players have been playing together since the age of seven.

The Sons of Kincolith did not make it until the end of the tournament after two wins and two losses put them out.

They boys tried their best, I think they went out in the second day,” Barton said.

During the awards ceremony, the boys' team presented the girls with flowers to congratulate them on their third place finish.

Kincolith will be working with other sports organizations in the Nass to prepare a bid to host 2013 Jr. ANT.
