The Caledonia Kermodes proved once again they belong in the top spot, with recent wins over Abbotsford’s Robert Bateman Timberwolves.

The senior boys basketball team co-hosted the southern team in cooperation with the Rupert Rainmakers at the Caledonia Senior Secondary gym Feb. 5.

The two teams split the cost of airfare to get the Timberwolves to make the journey north.

The Timberwolves played in Prince Rupert first, and swept the Rainmakers in a two-game series.

When they arrived in Terrace the next day they ran into a feisty Kermode team.

The first game, held in the afternoon, saw a close first quarter, with the Kermodes holding onto a 16 -14 lead.

In the second, the Kermodes outscored the Timberwovles 25-11, to take a 16-point lead into halftime.

The Kermodes continued to dominate in the third quarter, where they lead 61 - 39, and hung on for the win of 73 - 53.

The team scoring was led by Josh MacKay with 16 points, Kenneth Monture and Aaron Anderson with 14 pts each and Reegin Maki with 13 points.

Game two took place on Saturday night. The Kermodes took an early lead, 21-11, in the 1st quarter.

By half time they had expanded that lead to 33-19.

In the third the Timberwolves mounted a comeback, outscoring the Kermodes 20-17, but the Kermodes responded with a surge of their own and finished the game with a 67-50 win.

The Kermodes were led by Kenneth Monture with 23 points, and Aaron Anderson with 10 points.

The Kermodes' next games will be held at the Caledonia gym against Smithers tonight, at 7 p.m., and 4:30 p.m. tomorrow.
