The Skeena Grade 8 girls team has perfected an undefeated season by sweeping zones. There were three teams involved in the tournament, which took place at Skeena Junior Secondary School Feb. 19.The tournament consisted of three games between three teams from Terrace, Prince Rupert and Smithers.Game one was the Wildcats against the Rupert Rainmakers, which Skeena won by a score of 43-23.Game two saw the Rainmakers defeat Smithers 39-34.The final game for the zone win was between Skeena and Smithers Secondary and resulted in a 28-16 win for the Wildcats.Coach Gary Peden said he is very happy with the tournament and the season overall. He said in the team there is a strong core of players that have been playing for a number of years, including two players who have been playing since the second grade. He also said he had been hoping to find more competition for the team at zones, but was unable too as many schools in the region do not have a Grade 8 team for girls basketball.Tournament MVP was Khali Peletier, and Reanna Peden and Rosalyn Fassnacht were named to the all-star team.
