The 56 annual Legion Bonspiel was held last weekend at the Terrace Curling Rink.

The bonspiel is in the 56th year and hosted 96 curlers in 24 teams from the northwest.

“It was really quite successful, everyone seemed to have a very good time,” said Mary Ann Burdett, sports chair for the Terrace Legion.

The A event, the Ken Austin Memorial Trophy, was won by the John Evans rink of Terrace. Second place went to the Warren Copeland rink, also from Terrace.

The B event, the Bud Kirkaldy Memorial Trophy, went to the Andrew Williams rink from Smithers.

The C event, the Peter Barnett Memorial Trophy, was won by the Dave Dennis rink from Terrace.

The D event, the Steve Kutenics Memorial Trophy, was won by the Melanson rink from Terrace.

The bonspiel included opening ceremonies, breakfast and a dinner, all of which were put on by legion volunteers.

“We had a good time, and the people at the Legion certainly work hard for this,” Burdett said.

According to Burdett the annual bonspiel was originally created as a fun event for members of the Legion.

It has now grown to become an open event, available to all interested curlers.
