Bluebacks swimmers win medals at Smithers meet

Swimmers from the Terrace Bluebacks continue to challenge themselves and their competitors, this time at the Smithers Spring Sprint held Feb. 25 and Feb. 26.

Clubs from Prince Rupert, Kitimat and Terrace were hosted by the Bulkley Valley Otters.

Here are the Terrace individual highlights in alphabetical order and with ages in brackets:

* Georgia Bergstreiser (16)

- Won the 100 backstroke. Came second in the 50 fly and 50 backstroke. Finished third in the 200 IM, 50 breaststroke and 50 freestyle

* Matthew Block (17)

- Won the bronze aggregate (cumulative points scored) in the 15 & over boys age group

- Finished second in the 50 free, 400 free, 50 butterfly, 50 back, 50 breast and 200 breast

* Logan Braam (12)

- Finished second in the 50 back and third in both the 50 breast & 100 backstroke

* Hillary Callahan (12)

- Finished second in the 100 backstroke

* Paige Constantinescu (12)

- Won the gold aggregate in the 11-12 girls age group

- Won the 200 IM, 50 back, 100 free and 50 free. Finished third in the 100 fly

- Achieved a new ManSask “A” time (Manitoba Saskatchewan Junior Provincial Qualifying Time) in the 100 freestyle

* Caelyn Dalton (11)

- Won the 100 backstroke

- Achieved a new ManSask “A” time in the 200 IM

* Reed Downs (12)

- Won the gold aggregate in the 11-12 boys age group

- Won all six of his individual events

- Achieved his first ever Swim BC Divisional Qualifying Time with a 45.60 50 breaststroke

- Achieved new ManSask “A” times in the 100 breaststroke, 200 breaststroke and 50 freestyle

- Swam new personal best times in all six of his individual events

* Chase Goldsworthy (11)

- Finished second in the 25 breaststroke

* Noah Grielens (13)

- Won the bronze aggregate in the 13-14 boys age group

- Finished second in the 100 breast, 200 IM, 50 breast, 200 free and 200 breast. Came third in the 100 free

Xavier Grielens (10)

- Won the gold aggregate in the 10 & under boys age group. Won the 100 breast, 200 IM, 100 free, 100 fly and 100 back. He came second in the 50 free

* Osgar Leggat (11)

- Won the 50 backstroke

* Abbegail Meijer (9)

- Swam new personal best times in all six of her individual races

* Brook-Lynn Meijer (17)

- Won the gold medal in the 15 & over girls age group

- Won the 50 fly, 200 back, 50 back, 100 fly and 200 breast. Finished second in the 50 freestyle

- Achieved new ManSask “A” times in the 50 fly, 200 back and 50 free

- Swam new personal best times in all six of her individual races

* Carlee Metzger (14)

- Won the 100 fly, came second in the 50 fly and finished third in the 100 back

* Maia Purita (13)

- Finished third in the 100 breast and 200 free

* Mia Ramos-Sanchez (10)

- Finished second in the 25 breaststroke and third in the 25 butterfly

* Lachlan Waite (10)

- Finished third I the 25 breaststroke

- Swam new personal best times in all six of his events

* Abrielle Weston (11)

- Finished second in the 200 free

* River Wood (9)

- Came second in the 25 breast. Finished third in the 25 fly and 100 backstroke

* Sequoia Wood (13)

- Finished second in the 200 back, 200 free and 100 backstroke. Came third in the 50 fly and 100 freestyle

- Achieved new ManSask “A” times in the 200 backstroke, 100 freestyle and 200 freestyle

* Solstice Wood (11)

- Won the 100 backstroke. Came second in the 200 IM and 200 Free. Finished third in the 50 freestyle
