Foster Armstrong took home gold and Colton Scott earned bronze in the 50cc age 4-6 standings in the 2016 race series of B.C. Motocross (MCQMX). In provincials in Kamloops Sept. 25, Foster won first in 50cc class for age 4-6 and second in open age class for 50cc riders, and Colton earned sixth place in the age 4-6 race.

Marathon runner Brent Webb conquered the Oct. 9 Goodlife Marathon in Victoria in 3:22:07, an impressive time enough to qualify him for the 2018 Boston Marathon, which he aims to do.

The Terrace Peewee Minor Hockey team scored 56 goals and claimed a dominant victory at a Terrace tournament Oct. 21-23.

Cross-Country senior girls from Skeena-Caledonia won first in zones, and junior girls earned second. Junior boys from Centennial Christian also won second.

Martial artist Adrian Babcock seized the title as Grand National Champion in SKIL point fighting at the Western Canadian Martial Arts Championships in Vancouver. He also obtained silver in Brazilian jujitsu (gi grappling) and WKC continuous sparring. Nick Yasinchuk captured gold in the youth division in both SKIL point fighting and WKC continuous sparring.

Terrace hosted its first pickleball tournament, with 50 players from Terrace and Kitimat competing in Thornhill Oct. 29.

Elijah Azak, Madison McKay, Harold Moore and Teysean Henry from Terrace were four among seven northwestern youth who won premier’s awards for Aboriginal youth excellence in sport, which recognizes both sport achievement, and role model character.

A Whitecaps FC soccer academy decided that it will launch in Terrace, Prince Rupert and Smithers this coming spring, kicking up the skill-level in the northwest and fielding more opportunities for soccer youth to be seen and earn scholarships.

Powerlifter Jordan Linteris hoisted two Canadian records, one in bench press and one in deadlift for the 125 kg men’s open class with the Canadian Powerlifting Federation. Lucy Botelho claimed the deadlift record for the 56 kg women’s class, both competing in the Northern Classic in Prince George Nov. 5.

The Centennial Christian School senior girls volleyball team claimed the zone victory going undefeated in the tournament in Smithers.

The senior girls volleyball team from Caledonia Senior Secondary secured sixth in ‘AAA’ provincials in Kelowna Dec. 1-3, losing two tight matches and winning four overall.

Centennial Christian School hosted senior boys ‘A’ volleyball provincials here in Terrace Nov. 24-26. Centennial Seahawks earned silver, dropping two tight games and winning six victories overall.

Martial artists Robbie Cline, Adrian Babcock, and Gavin Colongard from the Terrace Shogun Dojo all claimed gold their divisions in continuous point fighting in a Miami tournament. Colongard fought in the beginner category and Cline and Babcock battled in different black belt categories in the Panamerican International tournament.

Martial artist Amanda Annibal from Atlantis Taekwondo seized double gold, winning in both sparring and patterns at taekwon-do provincials Nov. 19. Leo Strimbold and Thayna Healey also won in patterns and Keelan Hill won in sparring.

Cross-country runner Tyler Dozzi won the national championship in Kingston, Ontario, Nov. 26, competing against 223 of the best youth runners in Canada. That victory followed a provincial win in Kelowna where Dozzi finished the nearly 7K race with a solid 33-second lead.

The Terrace Skating Club won a team trophy in the Vanderhoof Kla-How-Ya competition Dec. 2-4, with 15 skaters earning a total of 33 medals in various categories.

The Terrace River Kings won their final game of 2016 in Kitimat Dec. 10, topping off a six-game win streak. The team is in second place with 16 points, compared to first place Williams Lake Stampeders who have 18 points.

Caledonia senior boys basketball team clinched third place in the Bob Gair Classic tournament in New Westminster Dec. 16, contending against eight Lower Mainland teams from ‘AAAA’ schools.
