Even if it’s legal, selling pot harms society

Remove the drug market and those who represent it, says letter writer

To the editor,

This is an open letter to the regional district, Terrace mayor and council.

How is it that society has become so lenient toward drug use by permitting marijuana to be legalized, knowing that its effects on individuals, families, communities and society are detrimental?

Many communities besides Terrace have experienced social digression in behaviour and atmosphere. Drugs and drug addiction are often indicated to be contributing factors.

Behavioural changes, attitude, impoverishment and homelessness, with the disempowerment of an individual that multiplies into a group, that becomes a sector within society, creates an error of a social norm.

If pot were good for everyone, I would not complain and be without cause. But we should all know enough by now the impacts are too high that involve dumbing down society.

The solution is not to bring in more health services. The solution is prevention of easy access to non-prescription drugs.

Remove the drug market and those who impose or represent it.

Susan Maroney,

Terrace, B.C.
