March 25, 1932 - June 6, 2018
Dick was born in Hardenberg, the Netherlands, and was the oldest of 9 siblings. In June 1948, at the age of 16, Dick and his family emigrated to Canada, and settled near Houston, B.C.. It was there he met Florence (de Jong), and they were married Sept. 16, 1953. Dick began working with CN, which had them living in train stations at Amesbury and Salvus, between Terrace and Prince Rupert. In 1963, Dick started working as a furniture mover for Doc's Cartage, now known as Bandstra Transportation, until his retirement 32 years later.

Dick loved flowers and took great pride in growing his tulips and marigolds. Dad and mom loved to travel, which included the Netherlands, Costa Rica, southwest USA, and Hawaii, his favourite!

Dick died at Terraceview Lodge Palliative care unit, at the age of 86.

The family would like to thank the staff there for the exceptional care given to him over the last month. Also, thank you to all the nurses and doctors that provided care for our dad over the years. A memorial service was held on Tuesday, June 12th, at the Terrace Christian Reformed Church. Pastor Joel Ringma officiated.

Dick was predeceased by son Melvin, and son-in-law Garfield Pappenhiem, and 5 siblings. He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Florence, and children, Arnie, Bonnie Pappenhiem, Fred (Lorraine), Jean Obzera, and Sharon (Rolf) VandeVelde, and 3 siblings. He was a loving grandpa to 11 grandchildren and 8 great- grandchildren.

Dick was so loved by all of his family, and will be missed. Until we meet again.
