February 18, 1932 - March 8, 2022
In Loving Memory ~
We are sad to announce that our dad, Victor Dean passed away March 8, 2022, at the age of 90. He was born Feb 18, 1932, the second child of seven, in Upper Muskodoboit, Nova Scotia.
He is predeceased by his brothers Roy and Kenneth, his sister Joyce and his beloved wife, Ginny.
He is survived by son Richard (Kim) and daughter Jill; grandchildren Mike (Sylvia), Geoff (Tanya), Matt, Megan (Corey), Tom (Kim), Luke and Jennie (Bri); great grandchildren Lee, Ricky, Alyx, Zach, Ben, Abby, Riley, Tori, Aubree and Kaylee; brothers Gordon (Shirley), Vernon (Pennie) and Gary (Gail) and numerous nieces and nephews. He will be missed by all of us.
Vic moved to central BC, in the early 1950's, to put his welding ticket to good use building the Kenney Dam. In Vanderhoof, he met the love of his life, Virginia Tee, who had recently emigrated from England. Ginny and Vic married in October 1953.
Richard was born in Vanderhoof and soon the family moved on to Kitimat where Vic worked on the construction of Alcan. A couple years after the birth of daughter, Jill, they moved to Terrace where Vic started working for Bob's Welding. Vic eventually acquired the business in the late 1970's and renamed it Terrace Steel Works. He built a thriving business for many years until his retirement in 2010, at the age of 78.
Vic was very enthusiastic about his interests. He had many books on every subject that caught his attention from hiking and history of his local area; training a Labrador Retriever; improving score in trap shooting; improving your golf game; skiing; reincarnation; how the mind works; politics and more. Discussions on these and many other subjects were encouraged.
He was a proud father and enjoyed his grandchildren greatly. He looked forward to our traditional family ski day on Boxing Day with all the grandkids.
He was the president and organizer of the Terrace Rod and Gun Club for many years, took swimming lessons after the pool opened in Terrace, learned to ski at age 45 on the Kitsumkalum Hill; was passionate in politics.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to staff and nurses at Rainbow Lodge Long Term Care Home in Prince George, for ensuring Dad's comfort, peace, and dignity through his final journey.
A celebration of life will be held on April 16 at 1 pm at the Skeena Valley Golf Club in Terrace.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in Vic's name to the Alzheimer's Society of BC or Alzheimer's Society of Canada.
