In Loving Memory (1935-2023) ~

On October 19, 2023, Ron Gowe Sr passed away peacefully surrounded by his family.

He was predeceased by parents Charles and Flora Gowe (nee McKinnon), sisters Audrey, Enid, Shirley, Grace, Mary, Eileen, Helen, Joan, and brother Doug.

Ron is survived by his loving wife of 38 years, Jessie (nee Saflor), his children Sherry (Jay), Ron Jr (Barb), Patsy (Peter), Julia (Khisi), Denise, Deanna, seven grandchildren, mother-in-law Nanay Betty, sister-in-law Sally, an extended family, and nieces and nephews too numerous to name.

Ron grew up in the Dunbar area of Vancouver. As a child, he developed a fascination with aircraft and the military, inspiring him to join the Royal Canadian Air Force at age 17. Serving in the 427 Sabre Squadron, he was able to see many parts of Canada, Europe and North Africa.

His desire to honour Canadian veterans and participate in community service resulted in 66 years of continuous membership with the Royal Canadian Legion, one of the longest-serving members of Terrace's Branch 13.

Ron took on many roles at the Legion, including serving on the committee of the Frank Morris Royal Canadian Legion Branch 13 Benevolent Fund for 30 years. Over his lifetime, he was a proud and prolific blood donor.

Following his military service, it was construction that brought Ron to Terrace. Here, he met his first wife, Dianne (nee Kofoed), and had a family. He tried several career paths before he became an electrician. After working for himself and various companies, he retired from BC Hydro.

Ron was a voracious reader with a thirst for knowledge and enjoyed a challenge. Throughout his life he always had a project on the go, sometimes problem-solving with very creative solutions. Some other pastimes included CB radios, military aircraft, and family genealogy.

Jessie and family would like to thank their friends, Home Care Nurses, Community Rehab, and Dr. Johnathan Moolman for their help, kindness and care at the end of Ron's life.

A Memorial service will be held at Sacred Heart Church, Terrace, on November 2, 2023, at 11:00 a.m. Reception to follow in the church meeting room. In lieu of flowers, consider donating to the Terrace Legion Poppy Fund, or a charity of your choice.
