July 11, 1928 - January 9, 2021
Phyllis slipped away peacefully into the waiting arms of her Savior and Lord on January 9, 2021. She will be reunited with her loving husband of nearly 67 years, Arnold and welcomed by her parents William and Margaret.
The youngest of 7, she is also predeceased by her brother John, and sisters Amy, Ruth, Margaret, Mary, and Grace. She will be sadly missed by her children Byron (Linda), Sharalyn (Don), Glenda (Brent) and Rob (Debbie); 9 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren; and her many nieces, nephews, and friends.
She's survived by her brother in law Clarence Warner and sister in law Trudy Best. Born and raised in Terrace, BC, Phyl and Arnie moved to White Rock in 1973.
Mom was not a demonstrative lady but preferred to show her deep love for her family and friends with acts of service. She was always quick with her generosity, when she learned that someone she knew was in need.
Her hospitality and culinary gifts meant she was often volunteering with the Terrace Hospital Auxiliary and in the kitchen for church functions and social gatherings. She loved all animals (as long as they had fur!) and took in many strays.
We will remember that every ailment or injury is "nothing to fool with!" and that annoying people are "pink-fingered ginks". Her lively humor, sharp wit and sense of fun have been greatly missed during card games in recent years.
Her sharp tongued "zingers" gave her care workers much amusement, as time eroded her sense of social boundaries. Although Alzheimer's has taken her away from us in pieces over the course of many years, we will remember the devoted, stylish, generous, intelligent, fierce, hymn singing matriarch who popped insects between her fingers in her beautiful garden, snuck mints to the grandkids in church, baked endless treats and protected those treats with a snappy, welt-raising tea towel. We love you. We miss you.
In lieu of flowers, please make donations to The Gideons International of Canada or the Alzheimer's Society.
