In loving memory ~

May passed away peacefully on February 28 after suffering a stroke.

May was born in Drumheller Alberta and moved to Vancouver when she was five years old. After graduation from South Burnaby High, she went to normal school for a year to become a teacher. She started her teaching career in Nanaimo (Wellington), then taught in Vancouver where she met and married John McFarland and started a family. In 1965, John graduated from UBC with a teaching degree and got a job in Terrace where May's brother Hugh already lived. May taught at E.T. Kenney 1965 to 1988. After retirement, May continued to have a very active life. She played bridge at a competitive level and participated in the Winter Games often bringing back a gold medal! May was involved in the Happy Gang for 30 years and went there to meet friends and engage in some kind of activity almost every day! She also enjoyed the Red Hats, travelling all over the world including China, Korea and Russia and spending time with her family. May's last two years were spent at the Alexander Mackie Assisted Living Lodge where she made new friends and participated in all activities possible! Her family would like to say a special thanks to Alexander Mackie for helping to make May's last two years comfortable and happy.

May lived a long, fruitful and happy life. She will be greatly missed by her daughter Lorraine McFarland (Frank), son John McFarland (Colette), grandchildren lan (Erin), Laurel, Ashton (Andrew), and Trevor (Helen), great grandchildren Emerson and Kingston and nieces and nephews Jack, Debbie, George, David, Alan, Jason and Mathew.

She will be joining her husband John, mother (Maude), sister (Betty) and niece (Janice) at the Terrace Cemetery.
