NANCY TIMKO

(nee Grinwich)

Died New Year’s Eve,

Dec. 31st. 2008, at the age of 93.

Nancy was born ‘between an

oak and a maple tree’ in the wartorn

village of Wilko Lyubisovsko,

Poland, (now Belarus), in 1915.

Nancy immigrated to Canada

with her parents and sister, Pat, in

1927, to homestead at St. Francis, Alberta. In 1964,

Momma and Poppa (Bill) Timko left High Prairie, Alberta,

and moved to the remote village of Usk, in northern BC.

Little did they know that they would spend most of their

time teaching the local hippies how to really live off the

land. Lifelong friends were made there, and ‘Momma

Timko’ was soon Baba, Grandma and big sister to many.

Poppa Timko died in 1992, and Nancy moved to

Penticton in 1999, first to Haven Hill and then to Trinity.

Nancy was the eldest of ten siblings. She is survived by

two sisters, her son, Gerry, of Terrace, and her daughter,

Linda, of Kaleden and their families.

Thank you to Dr. Robertson and all the staff at Trinity

who looked after this feisty little lady so lovingly. Thanks

also to the caregiver’s group for their constant support.

Nancy was a very generous soul. It was important to

her that no one left her house hungry. She was proud of

the many types of poultry that she raised and her yard

was always full of her beloved cats and dogs.

Feel free to donate to your local food bank (or just

send them a chicken as she would have done) or help

out your local SPCA in her remembrance.
