August 2, 1955-August 14, 2008

Mike Haworth passed away Thursday, August 14 in Vancouver, B.C. at the age of 53 years from injuries suffered in a helicopter crash that occurred the previous day near Terrace, B.C. Mike was a devoted family man and he leaves behind his wife Barb Haworth and his beloved children Jill and Kevin.

Mike will be sadly missed by his mother, Lorna Haworth, and his three brothers Kim (Maureen), Cameron (Leslie) and Pat (Tomi-Lyne) and their families. His father Don and his grandparents on both sides predeceased Mike.

Raised in Calgary, Alberta, Mike was a highly determined person who achieved whatever he focused his attention upon. Mike developed an early passion for hockey and played for several Calgary teams including the Calgary Canucks, where he became team MVP. Mike played professionally for the Hershey Bears of the American Hockey League where he was given the nickname “Baretta” in recognition of his tough and tenacious style of play, and was with the team the year they won the Calder Cup in 1980. Mike obtained an Engineering degree following hockey but the great passion in his life was flying and he became a well known, respected and highly skilled helicopter pilot. In 1995 Mike became head pilot and partner of Quantum Helicopters located in Terrace B.C.

Mike Haworth was a generous, dependable and loyal man with a fine sense of humor. Mike had many relatives and friends and his loss is deeply felt by all who knew him.

In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations be made to ‘Terrace 2010 BC Winter Games Society #210-4716 Lazelle Avenue, Terrace B.C. V8G 1T2’.
