MlCHAEL MATWlCK

September 27, 1916 - August 17, 2002

Mike passed away peacefully at home in the morning hours of August 17th. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Nellie and his children, daughter Eileen Clarke (David), sons Michael Jr. (Cora Kennedy) and Guy of Terrace, and grandson Michael of Vancouver B.C.. Mike is also survived by his brother Peter of Brandon, Manitoba and sister, Clara Coady, Bellingham, Wash. Predeceased by both his parents, his brothers Andrew, Paul, Morris, Joe and sister Bernice.

After serving overseas during World War II, Mike returned to Canada where he met and married Nellie. They moved to the lower mainland of B.C., eventually settling in Terrace in 1950. Mike was a very private and independent man who enjoyed the outdoors, fishing and mushroom picking. He also enjoyed wood working and constructed several homes in the Terrace area. Long time residents of Terrace will remember Mike best from his days as proprietor of the Hi-Way Drive Inn restaurant which was located where the Evergreen Motel & Pub are situated today.

The family wishes to express our sincerest gratitude to Baxter, Dale, Ursula and Elaine of the Home Care Nursing Team, and all the Home Support Workers, as well as Mrs. Bentham, Terrace Hospice Society who were always there for Mike and the family. You are a credit to your profession.

Relatives and friends are invited to join the family for an informal celebration of Mike's life at the family residence, September 27th at 2:00 p.m. Further details can be obtained by calling Eileen at 635-7468.
