January 24, 1938 – January 9, 2022
On Sunday, January 9th, 2022 Svend Mark passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his family.
Svend is survived by his loving wife, Margaret, his sons Scott(Camille), Shawn and Svend jr., and grandchildren Celina, Morgan, Kai and little Svend. Svend is also survived by his sister Margit and brother Alan (Alison).
Svend was predeceased by his parents Nels and Anna,and his siblings Peter, Vaughn, Lena and Viggo.
Svend was born January 24th,1938 at home in Mejlby Peraden Denmark.
The family emigrated to Canada in 1949 enduring a 9 day crossing aboard the S.S. Samaria. They boarded in France and landed in Quebec City followed by a train trip across Canada to Prince Rupert, B.C.
Svend spent several years in Terrace, working at the seniors home for 7 months and as an equipment operator for 3 winters at the Terrace airport. It was in Terrace in 1957 where Svend met Margaret. Svend also began his fishing career in 1957 making a couple trips with his brother Viggo on the Four Forty.
Svend and Margaret were married on June 25th,1960 at the United Church on Lakelse Avenue. Together they settled in Prince Rupert.
In 1958 Svend rented the troller T+H for one season before he purchased the Rider 1. Svend also made a couple trips dragging on the Margaret in 1960-61 deckhanding for Viggo. Svend also ran the Victor F in 1965 loading it in 2 days!
Svend owned the Security 1, the Nordic Star and finally the April Anne. Svend was a highliner, well respected and admired by his peers, and he always maintained a kind, caring, gentle attitude toward everyone he knew. He was a true gentleman!
In 1986 Svend and Margaret moved south to Ladysmith, B.C. to enjoy a nicer climate while Svend continued to fish out of Prince Rupert for several more seasons.
His retirement included years of wood cutting, fishing and hunting with his wife and family.
