January 15, 1918 - April 8, 2021
Jennie was born in Meeting Lake, Saskatchewan to Claude and Krina King. She was the second of four children. The family at this time was homesteading in Saskatchewan. The family left the homestead in 1925 and spent some time in Edson and Jasper before arriving in Terrace and setting up a new homestead on the bench in 1928.
Jennie spent the rest of her life in Terrace. From the stories she told us, she had a great life growing up in Terrace. There were a lot of chores in those days but they were made fun by Jennie's mom Krina and her siblings. There were also camping adventures at Lakelse Lake as well as other places to add to the fun.
In 1938 she met Harold Smith who had moved out to BC from Quebec to join his brothers. In 1940 Jennie and Harold were married. They had four children, Ann, Vicki, Dan and Rod. The main focus of Mom's life was her family and her extended family. Mom would often look after nieces and nephews when needed or sometime because it was a fun thing to do.
We were also looked after by our Aunties and Uncles on numerous occasions. There was lots of time spent at the family cabin in Lakelse Lake, and some interesting camping trips in the old four corner canvas tent as well as many other adventures.
Mom also liked to do volunteer work. She especially was interested in the Library and did many years of volunteer work there including some time on the Library board.
Jennie was predeceased by her husband Harold, brother Corbin (Lillian) King, and sister Rose (Oscar) Farkvam...She is survived by her sister Claudia (Rod) Gale, her children Ann (Ray) Tallboy, Vicki (Andy) Parvianen, Dan (Dianne) Smith, and Rod (Val) Smith, 8 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren and 3 great great grandchildren.
Jennie's last years were spent in Terraceview Lodge. She celebrated her 100th birthday there where many family members and friends were in attendance. She even celebrated her 103rd birthday.
She expressed to me right up to her last days how much she appreciated the care and love she received there. The family wishes to thank the staff of Terraceview Lodge for the kindness and love she received in her last years.
