SAUNDERS

October 22, 1944

February 17, 2007

It is with deep sadness that we announce the sudden passing of James Richard Saunders on February 17, 2007 at the age of 62. He was predeceased by his father Ted Saunders and two sisters, Jeanette and Linda.

He will be sadly missed by his mother, Nacie of Roblin, MB and three brothers, John (Rita) of Roblin, MB, Ed (Ruth) of East St. Paul, MB and Rob (Joanne) of Swan River, MB and many nieces and nephews, friends and neighbors.

James Richard Saunders was born into the home of Ted and Nacie Saunders on October 22, 1944. He was the fourth of six children; he grew up on a farm and attended school in Makaroff, Manitoba. After his schooling was complete, he worked on the farm for his dad and also for other farmers in the district.

In 1967, Jim moved to Terrace, BC where he was employed at Skeena Forest Sawmill. This is where he made his life and many friends. Jim lived the life he wanted to. He was a very hard worker who was also quick to lend a helping hand to anyone who needed it. There were certain pleasures in life he especially enjoyed; things like hunting, fishing, playing chess and cards, feeding the wildlife in his backyard, listening to Beatles music and watching hockey. Close friends knew that Jim had a heart of gold but he also had a mind of his own and wasn’t necessarily going to change it that often, but this is why Jim was so special.

After Jim’s retirement a couple years ago, his days followed a familiar pattern. First it was breakfast every morning at the Terrace Hotel with his regular group of about 4-6 friends. Then it was back home to cut some wood for his wood stove. Then after lunch it was off to Ferry Island to take his dog for a walk with another regular group of friends otherwise known as “The Dog Group.”

There was nothing in his life quite like his closest companion of 15 years, Liege. Liege was a black Belgian sheep dog that was the love of his life and now they both rest peacefully together.

Funeral service was held in Roblin, MB on Monday, February 26, 2007 at the Evangelical Mission Church with Pastor Randy Moffit officiating. Interment followed at Makaroff District Cemetery. Pallbearers were Leonard Nash, Gordon Mitchell, Michelle Kuz, Michael, Matthew and Mark Saunders. If friends so desire donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation. Braendle-Bruce Funeral Service, Russell, Manitoba was in charge of arrangements.

There will be a Celebration of Life Service in Terrace, BC on

Saturday, March 10, 2007 at the Terrace Hotel-Chinook Meeting Room at 2:00 pm. Everyone there is welcome to attend.
