It is with sad hearts we announce the passing of Irene Agnes Owens on August 15, 2016 at Yucalta Lodge, Campbell River, B.C.
Irene was predeceased by her parents Emil and Bertha Haugland, and sister Elizabeth (Dolly) Murie. She is survived by her husband of 64 years, Andy Owens; sons, Don (Lynn), Rick (Pam), and Rob (Carmel); grandchildren, Dave (Carmen), Steve (Shyla), Mike, Jeff, Kris, Brad (Karle), Jill (Alan), and Bobbi (Dave); great grandchildren, Austin, Caiden, Mitchell, Kyndra, Megan, Kenya, Maddy, Cohben, Ethan, Kendra, Riley, Bryce, Marley, Lily, Brynne, Kyra, Deagan and Devyn; brothers Wilfred Haugland and George (Val) Haugland and her sister Pearl Paulson.
Irene (Honey) was a long time volunteer and avid supporter of the Courtenay Seniors Centre. She took pride in the many new friends she made and participating in many of the activities. She especially enjoyed playing cards with her friends, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Irene picked up sewing, knitting and quilting at a very young age, from her mother Bertha Haugland, and carried on to hand make clothing and quilts for all her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She especially enjoyed friendships she developed at her regular Sewing Circle group in Terrace.
In her earlier years Irene and Andy spent many days on the golf course. Her entire life was dedicated to her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was always a wonderful hostess to all family and friends.
A Celebration of Life was held Monday, August 22, 2016 at Sequoia Springs Golf Course, 700 Petersen Road, Campbell River.
