January 17, 2019
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Ian James Jordan on January 17, 2019 at the age of 74. Ian will be forever remembered by his wife Lorrain, by his children Robert, Richard and Charlotte, son-in-law Garrett and grandchildren Silas and Freya, his brother Brian and sister-in- law Esther, Harry & Jean, as well as several nieces and nephews. Ian will also be remembered by many friends.

Born to James Albert and Dulcie Elizabeth Jordan in Scarborough, Yorkshire, England. Ian grew up with his parents and siblings, Pamela and Brian in Scarborough. Ian attended Scarborough Boys High School, after which he completed a BA in Classics at Newcastle University and a Masters in Classics at Kings College London.

On May 6, 1967, Ian married his wife, Lorrain in London, England. Ian taught in Ilkeston Grammar School, Derbyshire and Almondberry Grammar School, Yorkshire. In both cases he was head of classics. In 1975, they emigrated to Canada with their two sons. Ian taught English and English Literature for 32 years in Caledonia Senior Secondary School, Terrace, BC. Ian was for many years a provincial examiner for grade 12 English and English Literature exams and was also a lecturer at the Northwest Community College in Terrace, BC.

In 2007, he and his wife retired and moved to Ladysmith, BC. Ian enjoyed volunteering for the Citizens on Patrol, the Cancer Society and the Festival of Lights in Ladysmith, BC.

Ian's knowledge of the Classics gave him a deep understanding of language. This combined with a very wide exposure to literature enabled him to be a fount of knowledge for all around him. He is fondly remembered for his sense of humor especially with challenging classroom dynamics, to only say "another good morning in the classroom". Ian enjoyed the "Yacht Club" where many long-lasting friendships were made. Ian enjoyed travelling, gardening, genealogical research, and spending time with his family. He was generous in spirit to all that met him, a loving husband and father to all of his children and grandchildren.

A celebration of life will be held on Sunday, May 5th in Nanaimo, BC. Please email Lorrainj@gmail.com for details. Ian loved to give back to his community, as such, memorial donations can be made to your local Salvation Army.
