In loving memory ~
It is with deep sorrow and much love that the family of Hildegard Susanne Jakobs of Terrace BC, announce of her passing on March 30, 2025. Hildegard was born on April 25, 1933, in Berlin, the second of five children. Growing up during the war years in Germany, Mom experienced many hardships and deprivations. On one of her birthdays, she wished for a litre of milk... and she got it! After the war Mom apprenticed as a seamstress with Frau Käthe Strebe in Berlin. She met Raymond Jakobs at a party and the two hit it off, but he soon left for Canada. After finding work at Pohle Lumber, Ray told Mom to "come on over" and she packed her bags and joined him in 1956. It was a very different life, but Mom took to it like a duck to water. Her spirit of adventure, independence and resourcefulness have always been an inspiration. She had a great love of nature, which she imbued in her girls. Mom later trained as a home support worker at the college and worked for many years at Terrace Home Support Services. She also took up dog sitting, meeting many lovely dogs(and their people). Mom was very active with the Green Thumb Community Garden at Apsley and Grieg, growing delicious vegetables which she shared with friends. Mom has always been single-minded and determined, and even as her body was failing, her spirit and her mind were strong. As a devout Catholic, Mom's faith has supported her through difficult times. She was the Best Mom and we will miss her terribly. Mom was predeceased by her parents(Emil and Wilhelmine),siblings(Marianne, Heinz Jürgen and Hans Joachim) and ex-husband (Raymond Jakobs). Left to mourn are her daughters Gigi (Giselle) Jakobs (Anne Taylor) and Pamela Jakobs (Craig Fulker), granddaughter Rose, sister Liesel and numerous relatives in Germany, as well as many friends. Many thanks to everyone who cared for and supported Mom: Terrace Home Support Services & Home Care Nursing, Kysen Regional Hospital, Terrace view Lodge, Volunteer Terrace, Dr. Jaco Strydom, Lori McGinlay, Heather & Clayton Kurisu, Kim Webb, Alison & Brent Webb, Charmaine & Kylie Anderson, and Fr. James J. Dhiraviam, SAC. Funeral to take place on Tuesday, April 15, 2025 at 11 am at Sacred Heart Parish, Terrace, BC. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Northern Animal Rescue Alliance.
