In loving memory ~
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Edward Papais of Okotoks, Alberta on January 30th 2022.
Ed was born in Trieste, Italy in 1947 and immigrated to Canada at the age of 3 with his family, settling in Vancouver, British Columbia. In his late teens Ed spent his summers working as a logger on Vancouver Island to pay for his education at the University of British Columbia.
During his studies at UBC, Ed received his Bachelor of Commerce and Business Administration in 1972, a Teaching Degree in 1975 and Master's of Counselling Psychology in 1984.
Ed spent the majority of his teaching career at Skeena Junior Secondary School in Terrace, BC. There he taught many subjects including typing, math, business and social studies as well as serving as a school counsellor. His passion for teaching was evident to everyone that knew him. One of his best qualities was his genuine care and understanding for his students. Ed enjoyed teaching until he reluctantly retired in June 2012 after a 38 year teaching career.
Ed was a loving father and husband. When he was not teaching or marking students' papers, he enjoyed fishing for big salmon, golfing and family road trips in his camper van. His adventures took him across Canada, the United States, Mexico and many other tropical destinations.
Ed is survived by his loving wife of 40 years Mary (Wintemute) of Okotoks, his son James of Airdrie, Alberta, his son Neil and wife Dana (Harkonen) of Surrey B.C. and grandchildren Xander and Zoey.
A celebration of life will be arranged in the Spring when it is safe to do so. Donations may be made to The Canadian Cancer Society.
