It is with great sadness that the family of Ed McFadden announces his passing at 102 years. Ed was born in Mannville, Alberta to Eber and Dorothea McFadden. He was oldest of five children. He had had four sisters.
He worked the family farm with his parents until August 1941 when he married Nellie Swain. In October 1941 he joined the Royal Canadian Air Force.
In 1946 after the war, Ed and Nellie returned to Mannville. Ed went to work as an equipment operator for the District of Minburn. In 1951 the family now consisting of a daughter and son moved to B.C. He went to work for Mannix Construction on the Kenny Dam project near Vanderhoof.
In 1953 the family moved to Terrace where Ed got a job working on the Kitimat Railway. They decided that Terrace would be their permanent home and built a house. He then went to work for the Department of Highways until 1959 when he went to work for the City of Terrace.
Ed and Nellie were very active in the community. Curling, square dancing and gardening were their passions. They were also active in the United Church and Ed was a long-time member of the Masonic Lodge. He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and
watching hockey and other sports on TV.
Ed and Nellie both retired at 60. Ed decided to write the family history. They travelled across Canada and to England, Ireland and Scotland looking for information on the McFadden ancestors. They enjoyed 13 winters in Arizona where they made many friends. Ed is survived by daughter Lynne, son Dale (Gail), grandchildren Brett (Marlene) Apolczer, Rae-Ann (Kevin) Winiski, Ryan (Bev) McFadden and great-grandchildren Kyle (Hanna), and Jared Apolczer, Paige and Logan Chapdelaine, and Kamryn Winiski.
He was predeceased by his wife Nellie, son-in-law Donald Apolczer, his parents, and sisters Eileen, Dorothy, Reta and Norma. We will miss you, your sense of humour, and the twinkle in your eyes.
