In loving memory
Edna passed away peacefully at Terraceview Lodge after a brief Covid-19 infection. Though dementia had robbed her of all her memories, Edna loved music and remained happy to the end. Her cheerful and loving disposition will be missed by her family and by the staff and other residents at Terraceview Lodge.
Edna came to Terrace from Saskatchewan in 1943 at age 13. She married the love of her life, Bob Cooper, in 1947. They both worked tirelessly building Terrace. She was a founding member of the Terrace Little Theatre, and was president for many years. She helped organize and starred in Hospital Auxiliary Floor Shows to raise funds for the hospital. She was chairman of the Centennial Celebrations Committee in 1967, and got the whole town involved. She was a charter member of the Terrace Art Association, and worked to establish the Terrace Public Art Gallery and the annual Terrace Arts and Crafts Show.
Edna served as Alderman on City Council for many years. She fought to have the Arena located where it now stands. The consensus at the time was to build it down in Riverside Park (where the curling rink now stands). Edna was determined that it should be a focal point in the middle of town. She also served as School Board Trustee for many years, some of these as Chairman of the Board.
All of Edna and Bob's community service was recognized when they both (separately) received the Order of BC in 1995, and subsequently the Queen Elizabeth II Golden Jubilee Medal in 2002.
Edna raised a loving family and had a wonderful life. There were always lively and interesting conversations at the dinner table. The house was full of love and laughter. She worked for hours on her flower garden and created wonderful tapestry wall hangings with wool that she spun and dyed herself. She enjoyed her work as a Marriage Commissioner. In later years she and Bob built their home at Lakelse Lake by felling and milling the trees on the property.
Edna is predeceased by her husband Bob, son-in-law Bill, and brother Dave. She is survived by her brother Gerald (Gail) and sister-in-law Alie; Children Arlene (Peter), Julia, Virginia and Robert (Darlene); Grandchildren Joshua (Jenny), Graham (Emma), Rachael, Lucas, Marshall (Mia), Christopher, Cynthia, and Laura; Greatgrandchildren Westin, Rowan, Isla, Beya and Hudson.
The family would like to sincerely thank all the wonderful nurses and nurses aides in the Copper Unit of Terraceview Lodge for the kind and loving care of our Mother. We can't name them all, but would like to especially thank Stacey and Shawna; Alison, Melissa, and Grace. Big thanks also to Bonnie for the Music Program that helped Mom so much.
In lieu of flowers, we would appreciate donations to enhance the Copper Unit and/or the Music Program at Terraceview Lodge. This may be done through the R.E.M. Lee Foundation, specifying Terraceview Copper Unit or Music Program. We will not be holding a service at this time.
