Dorothy Marie Alton
October 06, 1924 - January 18, 2007
Dorothy was born in Lethbridge, Alberta to Mary Dorothy and Louis Fredrick Haeuser. She graduated from St. Paul’s School of Nursing in Vancouver, B.C. in 1946. She worked in this profession for over 50 years, nursing in Vancouver and Santa Cruz, California, where she retired in 1990. Dorothy married John Joseph Alton on December 26, 1947 and went on to raise 5 sons and a daughter in Vancouver, B.C. and Santa Cruz , California. They then moved to Terrace where she almost immediately resumed nursing at Mills Memorial Hospital, retiring again at the age of 73.
Dorothy passed away peacefully amongst family and friends on January 18, 2007. Funeral services were held at Sacred Heart Parish with interment following at Terrace Municipal Cemetery.
She was pre-deceased by her infant daughter Mary Martha in 1954 and her husband John in July, 1990. She is survived by her sisters, Marveline of Vegreville, Alberta, and Phyllis of Langley, B.C.; and her children: John (Sylvia) of Whitehorse, Yukon; Mary (Mick) of Arnold, California; Mark (Katherine) of Fernie B.C.; Peter (Lucia), of Santa Cruz, California; Montgomery (Sandra) and Daniel (Dawn) of Terrace, B.C.
Dorothy spent her entire life looking after others and will be remembered for her unconditional help and support to many of the less fortunate around her. In the eyes of many, she was a living saint.
The family would like to offer thanks and appreciation to all who have shown the love and support for their beloved mother, grandmother, sister and friend. Special thanks to Karen, Marion, and Sherry.
