November 2, 1952 - January 15, 2025
In loving memory ~
It is with deep sorrow and much love that the family of Donald (Don) Douglas Deedman announce his peaceful passing on Wednesday January 15, 2025, at the age of 72, in Edson, Alberta.
Don is lovingly remembered by his wife of 41 years, Margerite (Marg) Anderson-Deedman, his children Chandra (Cary) Schatz from Calgary, Michael (Mel) Deedman from Edmonton, and Candice (Colin) Truman from Edson, his grandchildren Martin and Paytin Truman, Liam and Aurora Deedman, and step granddaughter Maddie Larocque. He will be remembered by his sisters Pam (Ted) Govereau and Debbie Deedman, his former wife and dear friend Heather Deedman, and his chosen brother Larry (Sandy) Schamber. Chandra and Michael would like to express their deepest gratitude to their sister Candice, her husband Colin, their children Martin and Paytin, and their stepmother Marg for taking such good care of Dad while he was sick.
Don was born November 2, 1952, in Portage la Prairie Manitoba. He is predeceased by his parents Margaret and Douglas Deedman, his daughter Kimberly Dawn Deedman, his brother Dennis Deedman, and his dear friend Jim Lynch. He is joined by his beloved dogs Winston and Jose, who travelled so many miles with him on his shoulders.
Don's lifelong friends will remember him fondly including Donna Dark, Don Bolt, Jay and Laurene Kelso, Elton VanHorn, Jim (Nancy) Knievel, Lyle (Thereasa) Reierson, and Matt (Mary) Babich. He will be deeply missed by many family members and friends.
Don was an extremely talented and dedicated field maintainer and heavy-duty mechanic. In 1986 Don started a long career with CN Rail, retiring in 2017. After retirement, Don continued to work as a consultant and jack of all trades for Skeena Rail. Don was an incredibly gifted person, developing and designing everything from machines to houses, landscapes to boats, electrical panels to plumbing systems, and everything in between. Don was an avid ocean fisherman, building and designing his own boat, where he enjoyed many hours of crab and halibut fishing with his friends and family.
Throughout his life, Don lived in Manitoba, moving to Alberta in his early 20's, to BC in 1994, and back to Alberta in 2018. Don was passionate about supporting his family and friends, generously giving his time, resources and money to whomever needed help. He lived fiercely on his own terms and will remain forever in our hearts.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to Dr. Marilyn Oishi and to the doctors, nurses and staff at the Edson Hospital for their compassionate care of Don in his final days. We would also to thank the staff at Edson Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the charity of your choice. At Don's request, no service will be held.
