It is with overwhelming sadness that the Fugere family announces the passing of Denis Fugere. Denis was born in Campbell River and at the age of 10 years, the family returned to Maria, Quebec on the Gaspe coast.
Denis began his trade as a Machinist-fabricator at the Technical school in Rimouski, Quebec, upon completion of this course, he moved back to British Columbia and began his apprenticeship with Alcan in Kitimat.
Denis met his wife Nancy in 1957 and were married in 1959. Shortly after completing his apprenticeship, they moved to Terrace where he was employed by Bob's welding & Machine works later renamed Terrace Steel Works.
In those early days life was busy with work, raising a family and being involved in the community. Denis joined the Kinsman Club and was Chairman of Kiddies Camp at Lakelse Lake. He was a devoted Father to his two sons Brian and Maurice and daughter Lisa.
He coached boy's and girl's softball for many years and boys ice hockey from pups through to bantam divisions. He also was very involved with the curling club. For a period of 5 years Denis along with Mardy Scales, Marianne Martens and Gerry Bakker volunteered to coach the Terrace Special Olympics team. Denis's volunteer contribution to Terrace sports was acknowledged with an award ceremony from Sports BC held at the Terrace Curling Club in recognition of his years of service.
Never one to be idle, he was not retired long before he took on the job Maintenance man at the Kalum River Estates fishing lodge where he worked until the fall of this past year. He will be most remembered for his willingness to give of his time and effort to anyone who approached him with a need of help
