Con Doeleman

June 3, 1941 – October 5, 2010

Con is survived by his wife of 46 years Kathleen (Babe), sons Bill, Connal and Greg, daughter in laws Lorraine, Sandra and Beth, brother San and his wife Anne, sisters Maart and Coenra, & 8 loving grand-children.

Con was born and raised in the Netherlands. At the age of 18, Con immigrated to Canada pursuing a better life. He started out as a farmer but quickly realized that was not to be his career path of choice. Con ventured into the retail grocery trade, applying his skills for 13 years at Shop Easy/Food Fare across various locations in B.C. In 1975, he decided to go it alone starting Doeleman Sales, a confectionary wholesale company based out of Terrace B.C. He held that highly successful business until his retirement in 1990. After retirement, Con & Babe moved to Salmon Arm, Sicamous and finally to Merritt in 2007.

Con loved the outdoors and spent nearly every available weekend at the “lake” or in a RV exploring this great province. In his later years, Con spent considerable time and effort in the garden. This was not just a hobby but a source of pride for him. He loved growing vegetables and anyone who visited the house surely had a trip to his prized crop.

Con’s infectious laugh, kindness and good nature allowed him & Babe to have many friends across the province. He loved the Legion and especially the “meat draw”. Con really enjoyed the simple pleasures in life….good food & drink, enjoying his friends and above all being a Grandpa. He loved to dance with his girls, fishing & gardening with the boys and reading stories with all of them. Boys (Phillip, Brandon, Ross and Scott), Girls (Christina, Gracie, Brynn and Evie) have lost their grandfather but the special memories they shared will last forever.

Thanks to Con for being a terrific friend, loyal business partner and a loving family man and husband. He will be missed by all.

Please celebrate Con’s life and legacy on Saturday October 23 at the Legion in Merritt between 2 and 5pm.
