Charles Place passed away quietly in bed from heart failure, at his home, on December 15, 2016 after battling cancer for many years. Chuck was born in 1931 in Prince Rupert to G. Ransom and Catherine Place. He lived in Rupert until 1956, when he moved to Terrace with his wife Judith and twin daughters Karen and Sandra. Sons Rodney and James were born in Terrace where the family made many lifetime friends. Chuck was pre-deceased by wife Judy, who succumbed to cancer in 2001.

After moving to Terrace Chuck became a heavy duty mechanic in the logging industry, working for LH&K, Sande Lumber, and Skogland

Logging. When the bush work became less reliable he moved on to BC Hydro where he worked as a diesel station mechanic until retirement in 1996.

The family had a cabin at Lakelse Lake where there were always friends and family to enjoy the swimming, fishing, and bonfires together with lots of stories and songs. Chuck was involved in the community by taking part in first aid training and accident simulation with the town’s emergency crews, with the Terrace Judo club as an instructor for the younger students, a dedicated supporter of the community’s bands and choirs, and always giving a hand or an ear to friends whenever needed.

He will be greatly missed by family and friends in BC, Alberta, and Scotland. He leaves behind daughters Karen (Dan) Fallwell and Sandra (Bruce) Johnstone, son Rod (Sari) in Calgary, and son Jim (Cheryl) in Ladner as well as nine grandchildren and one great-grandson.
