In loving memory ~
It is with deep sadness that we announce the death of Carol Gaye Harrison (née Horton), a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and friend. Born in Vancouver in 1948 to Evelyn (née Towns) and Oliver Horton (Sr), Carol grew up in Quesnel and Mission, before eventually settling in Terrace.
Carol was passionate about community health nursing, and published two books, A Passion for Prevention: Public Health Nursing in the Skeena Health Unit 1937-97, and Miller Bay Indian Hospital: Life & amp; work in a TB sanitarium, both of which received praise and attention, including a short documentary in which she was one of two featured interviewees. Along with public health, Carol also had a passion for music. She played the piano and sang in the choir all her life and in middle age, she learned how to play the violin, joining both the Terrace Symphony Orchestra and her much-loved string quartet, Classical Act, who played at many events in the Northwest over the years.
Carol leaves behind her husband, Ed; children Paul (Candice) and Sandi (James); and grandchildren Lilly-Mae, Violet, William, and Ryland; as well as her brother, Ollie (Lee-Ann); and niece Cori, all of whom she loved immensely. Carol has been described by her friends and family as positive, humble, kind, talented, unique, quirky, caring, intelligent, motivated, and community-oriented. Hers is an absence that cannot be replaced. We will miss her dearly.
A memorial will be held at Knox United Church in Terrace on Saturday, October 5th at 10:00 am.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Ronald McDonald House or Terrace Symphony Orchestra.
