July 3, 1941 - March 12, 2025
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Allen Hovland on March 12, 2025. He passed peacefully with his daughters by his side at Terraceview Lodge.
The oldest of five children, Allen was born July 3, 1941 in Vernon, BC and grew up in Malakwa. He was a real prankster and would do anything for a laugh, especially getting his younger siblings in trouble. In 1969 Allen moved to Stewart where he worked for Bonlie Logging. He then moved to Terrace and worked for Crown Z and MacMillan Bloedel before starting his own logging company, Hovland Contracting Ltd., working for many years in the Nisga'a Valley. Allen met Barbara on December 18, 1976 and they were married 6 months later. The family grew in 1979 and 1982 with the addition of Holly Joy and Heather Allene. In 2010 Allen became a proud poppa to Holden and then Willow in 2013. After running the logging company for many years, Allen downsized to road building and finally retired where he focused on working with his sawmill, puttering in his shop and whittling by the fireplace. The shop was always open for family and friends, with the fire burning and cold beer in the fridge.
Allen is predeceased by his parents,Tomand Eva, and his brother, Lloyd. He is survived by wife, Barbara, daughters Holly (Philippe) and Heather, grandchildren Holden and Willow, siblings Earl (Bonnie), LoAnn (Dale), Alaine (Don), nieces and nephews Trevor, Jodie (Dwayne), Ronna (Mike), Leland (Kristi), Sherelle, Angie (Kevin), Ryan, Randi (Trent), Dustin (Crystal), Chancey (Michelle), 18 great nieces and nephews and many cousins.
A special thank you to Chelsea and Ty-Lee at the Sunshine Centre and everyone who provided dad good care in the Copper Unit, particularly Stacey (his favorite "daughter").
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Sunshine Centre. A celebration of life will be held on August 2, 2025 in the shop.
Allen was loved by so many and he will be greatly missed.
