It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our father, Alex. He passed away on August 14, 2010 at Terraceview Lodge, surrounded by loved ones.

Alex was born, raised and lived his entire life in Terrace. In the 1940's, he formed a company called Houlden’ s Cartage with his father and brother and Houlden Logging came to be in the 1950's. Alex ran this company until 1989, when he turned it over to his sons. He was also a partner in Tower Logging (coastal logging) with John Sarich.

Alex was dedicated to the community of Terrace and served time on the boards of the Northwest Logger's Association, the Terrace Health Care Society, the Terrace Co-op and the R.E.M Lee Foundation, where his pet project was the first CAT Scan at Mills Memorial Hospital.

Alex's great loves were his kids, grandkids, boating on the coast, gardening, dogs, reading history books, teasing, and most of all, his wife, Judy, whom he referred to as "the prettiest girl in Terrace."

He leaves behind his daughter, Terry, sons Larry (Shelly), Ken (Anita), and Earl(Mona). Grandchildren Warren (Kerri) and Ryan (Bryn) Kluss, Jaime Houlden, Angie (Darren) Bell, Luke (Candace) Houlden, Buddy and Hayley Houlden, Great Grandchildren Hannah, Alexa, Jake, Sebastian, Desiree, Sarah, Jamison, Mary, Ashley, sister-in-law Bettye and numerous nieces and nephews. He was pre-deceased by wife Judy, mother Mabel, father Harry, sisters Doris and Peggy and brother Charlie.

The family would like to express their heartfelt thanks to the staff of Terraceview for the wonderful and compassionate care given to our Dad over the past five years. You are truly special people. We would also like to thank our friends and extended family who have shown us such support over the past years and especially these past few weeks.

In lieu of flowers may we suggest donations to Terraceview Lodge or the R.E.M. Lee Foundation.

“If love could have saved you, you would have lived forever, Dad”
