Environment Canada has issued a winter storm warning for the North Coast, including Terrace and Kitimat.

Hazardous conditions are expected as a strong Pacific frontal system approaches the inland sections. Expect snowfall to be heavy this afternoon with 10 to 15 cm accumulating in Terrace and Kitimat. Stewart will see 20 cm of snow tonight with another 10 cm on Friday.

Snow will continue into tonight in the Terrace and Kitimat areas before changing to freezing rain on Friday as warm air moves in and temperatures remain below zero. Freezing rain will continue Friday morning before warmer temperatures change it to rain during the day.

Surfaces such as highways, roads, walkways and parking lots may become icy and slippery. Environment Canada is asking residents to prepare for quickly changing and deteriorating travel conditions.
