Environment Canada has issued a cold-weather warning for Terrace and Kitimat tonight with strong outflow winds and cold windchill values of minus 20.

“A strong Arctic ridge of high pressure will start to build over the BC Interior tonight,” reads the Environment Canada alert. “As Arctic air establishes itself, it will begin to spill out to the coast through lower mountain passes generating strong outflow winds. The combination of cold air and strong winds will produce wind chill values near minus 20 in Terrace and Kitimat beginning tonight.

The weather pattern is expected to persist until at least Sunday morning.

Residents are advised to prepare for unusually cold temperatures and strong winds.
