THE WIFE of a man who's been missing for two weeks is doing her own search with a few people and invites others to come help.
On Oct. 3, Fern Driediger, a few friends and her sisters met at the Kitsumkalum Tempo gas station and went out to search a nearby mountain and along Kalum River for husband Daniel Driediger, 50, but didn't find anything in either place.
He was last seen Sept. 20 leaving his Park Ave. residence on foot, said police Sept. 26.
Daniel is 6 ft. tall (183 cm), weighs 196 lbs (89 kg), has blond/grey hair, blue eyes, and a moustache, said police.
He was wearing grey work pants, work boots, a plaid hooded jacket, and a green canvas jacket, said police.
Terrace Search and Rescue searched an area on Thornhill Mountain Sept. 27 with no sign of the missing man, said police.
Daniel's wife, Fern, said she and family and friends are going out searching this weekend, too.
“We'll probably be checking out the Kalum River again this weekend,” said Fern, adding that she took today off from searching as she felt mentally and physically exhausted.
Colour posters of her husband are being put around town but as of today, Oct. 4, she hasn't heard anything.
The day her husband went missing, Sept. 20, he returned home from work and then went out again without changing out of his work clothes, she said.
“He just was feeling down and needed space I guess,” said Fern.
A small black-and-white poster put out by family said his last whereabouts were at about 9 p.m. Sept. 20 at the Bank of Montreal (BMO) bank machine.
“I know that because we had the account checked,” said Fern.
The small poster also says Daniel enjoys the outdoors and quite possibly he would be on a mountain or by a riverbank in Terrace or surrounding area.
“I just want people to keep their eyes open especially the fishermen, the hikers, the bikers, especially people like that,” said Fern.
“Somebody has to have seen him, you know, he's somewhere. Someone has to know.”
Fern doesn't believe that Daniel would hitchhike if he was by a roadway.
“Even if he was hitchhiking, not many people pick up hitchhikers so how many vehicles would've gone by and seen him and there's not one person who has come forward,” she said.
Anyone who would like to help out with the search for Daniel Driediger can meet Saturday morning, Oct. 5, at 10 a.m. at the Kitsumkalum Tempo gas bar.
Anyone with a boat that could search Kalum River would be welcome too, she added.
If lots of people show up, she will talk to them and see if they wouldn't mind going out searching Sunday, too.
