The Usk ferry which connects those living on the north side of the Skeena River to Hwy16 on the south side of the river has been temporarily removed from service.
A combination of high water from the spring run-off and recent rains combined with debris floating down the river is the reason, says highways ministry official Dan Baker.
“We like to keep the service for as long as we can but obviously safety is our Number One factor,” he said.
The ferry will be put back into service when water levels decrease and the amount of debris floating down subsides, Baker added.
In the meantime, residents on the northern side of the river are taking a cable car back and forth.
