UPDATED: Downtown Terrace in the dark this afternoon

POWER OUTAGE affects about 4,000 in the city's downtown and south to Lakelse Lake.

BC HYDRO extended the time for the power to come back on in Terrace and area to 6 p.m. or 6:30 p.m. depending on the area.

Power outages at about 2:16 p.m. today left about 739 residents in the dark downtown south of Scott Ave., to Haugland Ave. and east of Kenney St., to Kofoed Dr. and about 1,500 people southwest of  Hwy 16, east of Lakelse Ave. and north of Hwy 37, according to BC Hydro.

BC Hydro said a tree down across the wires caused the outage, which also includes 1,721 south of Keith Ave. and residents in the 2800 and 2900 blocks of Skeena St.
